It’s pretty obvious when someone is going through the motions when you’re speaking to them, not listening to a word you’re saying and it’s never a big confidence boost.

Yet it doesn’t take much effort to tune in and actually hold a genuine interest in the person you’re talking with. If you don’t want to be speaking with them then make your excuses and get out of the conversation. If you’re speaking to someone then give them the courtesy of your full attention until the conversation ends.

This is not only good from a karma perspective because you are showing respect but also because you’ll find that you will gain more from the conversation if you pay attention.

All too often we float off in our own minds thinking about what we’re going to say next rather than just listening. This brings to mind the very relevant old adage about having 2 ears and one mouth and using them accordingly – become conscious of your mind chatter and remember to allow a second or two of silence after they’ve stopped talking before you begin.

Think back to the last time you had a conversation with a friend and they gave you their undivided attention. How did you feel? I’m guessing pretty good. So why would you not want to make the person you’re listening to feel the same? Cared for, respected and acknowledged.

As always I’d love to hear your experiences and thoughts on this so please join in the conversation below…
